Insight Gap Assessment

Most of our clients have to conduct insight gap assessments in order for them to demonstrate to the business where & why budget is required. In order to help in this exercise, we've developed this Insight Gap Assessment template.

You will see that although this is an Insight Gap template it covers a spectrum of key areas as Insight Gaps may actually be knowledge gaps or engagement gaps and not actually insight gaps. Try to keep your thinking broad therefore when assessing the insight needs within your business.

How to use?

Firstly list your key assessment areas.

We have identified the ten most common (shown here under the purple header) which you can use directly or you can create your own list.

Step 1: This should be a brief, fair assessment of the current state of affairs.

For example, it might be that you have good people in your team, but maybe their roles are not clearly defined or understood by key stakeholders in the business. A barrier to internal shopper engagement can be stakeholder engagement. Understanding how roles interact & who is responsbile for certain KPIs can be critical in this.

Step 2: Define what you want the future to look like.

Take things one step at a time. OK, so there may be a number of things that need to happen with roles & responsibilities for example, but if stakeholder clarity is the priority, focus on this as the first step. In your next review you can set yourself a new target. 

Step 3: How to bridge the gap.

This is where you can look to others - or your manager - for input as it is all about ideas on how to fix the problem. Listed are some ideas that we have found to work well.

Step 4: Define success.

Often this step is left out; how will you know when you've achieved your goal. Try to make these as objective & quantitative as possible, i.e., a measure that someone else if asked whether you've achieved it or not, could say 'yes' or 'no' to.
